Education is one of the most important aspects to enrich the lives of individuals, opening the doors of knowledge and eradicating ignorance. However education is acquired through various formats. The face to face learning format is also known as main stream education is one of the most popular formats opted by many schools around the globe. This format includes a large group of students attained by a teacher. This teacher is responsible of inculcating the knowledge in the students. However every student is gifted with different intellect and learning ability, thus this mainstream education format might now be suitable for everybody. Some students have different choices in terms of education, some might have different traits some are unable to attend the mainstream education. Thus such students opt for alternative education.

Alternative education many inculcate certain principles or ideologies from mainstream education, however alternative education is aimed at the niche classes.

Alternative education basically has three popular approaches, political approach, philosophical approach and scholarly approach.

Alternative education mostly has a class with a small group of 15 students who are goal oriented. The teachers and the other staff are more or less compassionate and experienced. The teachers are highly professionals and have personal touch with every student and thus know the capabilities of each child personally. The teachers adapt their teaching styles with the learning styles of the student that enables the student to comprehend the content matter properly. Alternative schools provide flexible school schedules that aid the learner to establish proper tempo for education.

Thus this format guarantees the success of each and every student.

Alternative education has been broadly categorized in four major forms namely, school choice, alternative school, independent school and home based education.

School Choice: School is regarded as one of the most basic aspect in education. Some students are having the caliber to educate themselves with niche learning. There are several public schools offer with alternate education. Thus public schools provide an open opportunity to almost every student in their community to opt for alternate education. The most popular school options include charter schools that are often the combination of private organization and public funding, magnet schools which includes students with peculiar skills like performing arts, music schools, etc

Alternative Schools: Alternative schools are specifically set up for the students with the choice of interest. Alternative schools offer wide range of philosophy and teaching methods. Though alternative schools are provided with financial aid from the government, many alternative schools seem to run independently. Alternative schools are basically established for certain students with disciplinary and social changes. Alternative schools are also established for separate section of students with physical or emotional disabilities.

Independent Schools: Independent school or private school, it is basically described as a learning centre which has greater amount of flexibility in staff selection and educational approach. Different forms of independent schools include free schools, schools based on experiential education, schools based on international curriculum, etc…

Home based Education: Home based schools are more or less practiced those who wish to opt out of the traditional education format. The reasons may vary from education, philosophy, religion, etc… These students do not follow regular curriculum approach on the contrary they depend on internet for their education.

Alternative education is acquring increasing importance in recent years. In its differnt forms, alternative deucation has made the knowledge and education process easier for the special section of students.

Working to pay for your education is very common but if you are a late starter and want to complete your education in the later years, physical schooling can be a bit of a problem. It can be very difficult to fit your school hours into your already overloaded schedule.

Thank God for online education and distance learning. It is a common sight for students getting their education completed online and getting a paralegal degree online is no different. The last couple of years have proven successful to online learning and the number of institutes who provide for paralegal degrees online has been increasing. Students can keep their jobs as well as get a degree online to show for their efforts while still being able to bear the expenses.

Getting an online degree in paralegal is not without its advantages. As is the case with other online degree programs, you can study when you feel convenient and don’t have to hassle and cram everything together. Most online programs have schedules for submitting assignments and exams so that you can plan your schedule in advance.

Another common benefit of online education is that you can get your degree from virtually anywhere; the only requirement is that you need a reliable internet connection and a laptop. So you can carry your “classroom” with you. Not all of us have the benefit of living in a big city to get our degrees, so getting your paralegal degree online is a pretty good option for some.

Online degree programs have removed the visible difference of being in an actual physical classroom. Many people who have completed their paralegal degree online have said that there has been no communication gap and they have interacted and communicated efficiently just like as in a physical classroom.

Since you are not actually in the classroom it would be better for you if you check your institute’s credibility before you actually commit to a particular institution. Check on different schools, options, programs, accreditation before calling the admission representatives.

Online driver’s education courses – a paradox in itself but a growing trend nonetheless. From the time we have started doing everything online, a day was about to come when a practical oriented training such as driving would also find an online application. Well, the practical aspect still exists in the real world, where real trainers are going to get in the seat beside you and teach you to drive, but everything else can be done online as many such online sites are proving to nowadays.

Online drivers education courses, such as that promoted by driverseddirect.com, are all about providing assistance in learning to drive to getting the final license. The entire process involves several steps such as enrolling in a driving school in your area, understanding the basics of driving many of which are theoretical as well, practicing for the driving tests and finally, assistance in obtaining the driver’s license. All this is happening online.

Online drivers education courses - such websites

While the website driverseddirect.com starts off by helping you to find a driving school in an area near you, drivereducationonline.us is a comprehensive online directory which helps one to find driving schools throughout US.

Drivereducationonline.us focuses on helping teenagers master the comprehensive driving rules manual that they need to know to pass the written tests. Each state has its own rules and regulations, and as per your region, you can enroll and gat access to interactive educational materials which will provide hands on training in passing the driving school tests.

Then again, passing traffic school courses are made available online on such websites. It makes it possible for individuals to get a traffic ticket waived off by passing the traffic school course online and get the certification delivered at your doorstep. Then again, driving records of individuals can also be found online, state wise as well. Free insurance quotes and other related resources such as car sales ads and so forth can be found on such websites.

Most online courses focus on assisting teenagers to get their learner’s permit quickly and without hassles. For instance, teen.idrivesafely.com is another such website which provides state specific permit and assistance to ace the driving test. Teenagers can take the test online to obtain their learner’s permit, show it at their respective DMS, enroll for behind the wheels training and finally, pass the driving test.

Online driver’s education courses – making it easier

All drivers ed or online driving courses focus on assisting students to ace the learner’s permit and the final driving test. The driver’s education online involves animated, interactive educational software which makes learning easy and fun and claim that, these courses not only provide flexibility to people as to where they can take the course, the internet technologies prove more effective than classroom courses.

Thus, online driving courses are changing the way teenagers and others had to go through to obtain their driving license. From driving records to passing traffic school, online driver’s education courses have simplified the lengthy procedures involved and made driver’s education more accessible to all.

The Benefits in America

Women’s colleges in the United States uniquely prepare women for success by offering a strong academic curriculum, professors who challenge them to excel and a network of graduates who assist them upon graduation and throughout their professional lives. Women’s college graduates are well-prepared to attain top positions in their career fields, and higher salaries than women graduates of co-educational institutions.

for complete details about study in abroad, visit study in abroad corner

Notable women’s college graduates include Jeane Kirkpatrick, first female US ambassador to the United Nations (Stephens College); Madeleine Albright, the first female sectary of state in the United States (Wellesley College) and Geraldine Ferraro, first female US vice-presidential candidate (Marymount Manhattan College).

These women are among the fewer than 4% of college-educated women who graduated from a women’s college.

Although small in number, women’s college graduates are influential as indicated by the following statistics from the Women’s College Coalition:

Of ‘Business Week’ magazine’s list of the top 50 women who are ‘rising stars in corporate America’, 30% earned a bachelor’s degree from a women’s college.
Of the 1992 ‘Fortune 1000′ companies, one third of women board members are graduates of women’s colleges.
Of ‘Black Enterprise Magazine’s 20 most powerful African-American women in corporate America, 20% are women’s college graduates.

Undergraduate Programs
Women are earning an increasingly larger share of bachelor’s degrees in business. In 1995, women earned 48% of undergraduate business degrees, compared to 9% in 1971.

Undergraduate business programs at women’s colleges provide opportunities for women to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to succeed in the business world. High-quality programs are grounded in a liberal arts education, allowing students to adopt a broad perspective, think critically and creatively, use new technologies, interact with people from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and refine their leadership skills. Courses explore topics of, by and about women.

By participating in campus and community organizations, students apply the theories they learn in the class-room to real-world situations. Business internships, which place students with employers such as Andersen Consulting and Paine Webber for a limited period of time to gain experience and supplement their education, are invaluable. A college’s career service office helps students locate top internship and career opportunities as well as professional and graduate schools.

Continuing Residential & Graduate Programs
Many women’s colleges, in addition to their residential programs for women, offer continuing education and graduate programs designed for both men and women who maintain full-time jobs in addition to family and community responsibilities. Both undergraduate and graduate students have close contact with their professors, and course formats are designed to fit their busy schedules.

Flexible formats may include independent, guided study, on-line courses, on-campus classes in the evenings, on weekends and during the day, and short-format courses. Credit is often given for prior learning experienced outside the classroom, while external degree and Internet-based programs allow students to earn a degree from a quality institution without having to relocate or leave their jobs.

Women and men studying business at graduate level may enrol in an accredited Internet-based Master of Business Administration Program, with emphases on topics such as entrepreneurial business or management. Regardless of where the students live, they can complete all of their coursework, and converse with their professors and fellow students over the Internet.

In 196, women owned one-third of all business in the United States, according to the National Foundation for Women Business Owners. The foundation reports that since 1987 the number of women-owned US businesses grew by 78% to reach 7.95 million in 1996, outpacing the 47% growth rate for all US firms during this same period. In 1996, women-owned businesses generated .28 trillion in revenue, and employed 18.5 million people, representing 26% of the US workforce.

If you think acne affects only teenagers, then think again. It commonly strikes adults on a daily basis. It can be overwhelming to start noticing breakouts of pimples, blackheads, or zits all over your face and you might not know what to do first.

Before you do anything else, visit or call your local, trusted pharmacist. Licensed pharmacists are always knowledgeable about skin products and will know which products will bring acne relief and which ones won’t. Most pharmacists are very willing to help. If you don’t already know one, try your local WalMart.

While you are at WalMart, check out some of the available natural remedies and products they have displayed near the pharmacy. Many natural products claim to completely cure your acne. Any good drugstore will also have displays of various supplements claiming to help with acne relief.

Educate yourself on the different causes of acne and you may discover what is causing your own skin to break out.

Acne research is lengthy and still ongoing so experts are not absolutely certain about the precise causes of acne. There are a few possible causes, however, that everyone seems to be in agreement on.

Medications

Some medications, such as steroids, barbiturates, and anti-seizure drugs, are thought to contribute to skin disorders. Don’t stop taking your prescribed medications, though, before first checking with your physician to see if they could be causing your acne.

Emotional Stress

Increasing evidence suggests that stress may contribute to acne and other skin problems. If you are stressed, try developing an exercise program and following it regularly. Exercise is a proven stress-buster.

Chocolate

Chocolate has not yet been proven to cause acne. Many people insist that eating chocolate will make you break out in pimples but no amount of research has ever proven this theory to be true.

Cosmetics

Since acne is triggered by plugged or blocked pores, we can safely assume that make-up and other cosmetic products containing oil will contribute to acne. Even “safe” products (those that are hypoallergenic and oil-free) may contribute to blackheads or zits because they cover up the skin. Any cosmetic product applied to the skin has the potential to clog the pores and interfere with acne treatment.

Frequently Scrubbing your Face

Acne-prone skin should always be kept clean, but only mild products should be used to wash it gently. Many people are under the impression that they should scrub their skin using harsh soaps when they have acne but this only aggravates and worsens the condition.

Pollution

High humidity and other unnatural environmental conditions (i.e. smog, fog) can promote acne as well as other disorders. If skin is exposed to humid conditions for a prolonged period of time, swelling occurs (which blocks the pores, thereby contributing to acne).

Dietary habits

Many people notice that certain foods they eat cause their acne to flare up. Your dietary habits can certainly contribute to breakouts and you should note the products causing the most problems so that you can avoid them in the future.

Common food culprits thought to worsen acne include fats and dairy products. Diets rich in zinc should be beneficial if you have acne. Taking zinc supplements is one alternative you might consider for the relief or treatment of acne.

The Internet has helped the tutoring industry in many ways over the last several years. It has afforded many opportunities that traditional tutoring cannot. The benefits are on both sides of the spectrum, for the tutor and for the student.

The programs that allow tutoring online have come far over the last several years. The option to use strictly email is still one method of receiving help but not necessarily the best. The back and forth nature is not always the most beneficial to either the student or the tutor.

Now there are many online ways to receive tutoring that is interactive. Many are using microphones and speakers so that the communication can be not only through the written interactive boards, but also through speech. This allows the communication to be instantaneous and therefore much like face-to-face tutoring sessions.

Students today are very computer and electronic oriented.

Most children have at least one of the following if not several: iPods, Xboxes, PlayStations, Email accounts, MySpace, and cell phones. The more bells and whistles the more attention the student pays. This has become one of the problems that teachers are having in the classroom. By tutoring online, it captures the student’s attention, much more than pen and paper does. This helps the student to be more involved in the learning process and to retain more of the information.

The flexibility that online tutoring offers is one of the most beneficial parts of the process. The craziness of running a student to a tutoring session while needing to be somewhere else at the same time is gone. Tutoring in the evenings now just became easier, dinner can be cooked while the tutoring is going on in the other room.

The house no longer needs to be straightened up before the tutor comes over, saving lots of time. These are all simple things that all add up.

Now tutoring sessions can be set up at any hour that is convenient for the student and the tutor, location no longer plays a role in the process. If a last minute question comes up or an unexpected test, many online tutors are easier to arrange last minute sessions with than private tutors.

The online tutoring sessions are also typically secure programs. A log-in is needed by both the tutor and the tutee, this leads to a more secure session, where your child’s privacy is respected. The tutors can also be checked, many offer email and telephone contact information, along with background information regarding the tutor.

Most tutors even though on-line not only offer, but encourage parental contact so that the progress of the student and any additional needs can be discussed. Many offer weekly updates and suggestions regarding the sessions.

As in any tutoring, different types of students will benefit differently. The struggling students is able to bring up their grades in a comfortable secure setting. The student may feel more at ease using the Internet approach, since they are not sitting face to face with a “teacher”. This may help them to feel more at ease, and to ask the questions that they need answered.

A student that is on level, or above level, will also benefit from online tutoring. This type of student is able to move ahead at the pace they need. The computer based process is typically more interesting than sitting with yet another teacher, allowing the student to feel challenged at the pace that moves them along as needed.

One final benefit is the pricing. Online tutoring is typically cheaper than private tutors. The hourly rate for an online tutor may be lower than that of others, but as with all things, keep in mind that lower rates may reflect lower standards. Some online tutors offer package deals that allow them to cut their rates by allowing blocks of hours at a different rate. This allows the tutor to keep their prices down, and the student to receive the hours needed at a lower rate.

There are many questions that should be asked when choosing a tutor such as: Is the session one-on-one? Do you offer a satisfaction guarantee? What subjects do you tutor? Are you a certified teacher? And What hours are you available?

The benefits and ease of online tutoring make it a pleasant experience for all involved. It is becoming the new way to receive the help that your child needs that fits into most everyone’s schedules and their needs.

A liberally educated person meets new ideas with curiosity and fascination. An illiberally educated person meets new ideas with fear-James B. Stockdale
This is what came to my mind when I first read about the two boys in their pre-teen years who have been allowed to pursue MBA despite being too young. At last, someone has valued wisdom over age. I admire the parents of these children, who encouraged them to pursue what they wanted and not forced them with what they desired their children to be or do. This is a true example of healthy parenting and growing wisdom. Everyone needs to learn from them.
Yes, I believe that education must be free from all barriers of age, class, sex, etc. And should be imparted to those who are truly interested in it. People who really want to gain knowledge are considered fools by our so-called developing society. The quest for knowledge is lost somewhere in our day to day struggle for higher pay-perks and better standards of living. We study not to make ourselves more knowledgeable but to get a huge amount as salary at the end of every month.
Our ancient wisdom has always put weight on gaining knowledge and reaching to the level of self-actualization. Material gaining was never the target and possibly that made life more fulfilling and worth living. Earlier life revolved around the purpose of existence and education as a way to gain that enlightenment, but today, its sad to know that we study to stand in the queue for securing our place in an air-conditioned room of a big company, which provides us enough money to buy everything we need to live a life of luxury. As said by Henry Ford: If money is our hope of independence you will never have it. The only real security that a man will have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience and ability.
Why do we need to study only when we want a job? Is that all in life or is there something beyond the material gains? We all know the answer, yet we follow the league, because long back; Darwin gave the famous principle of survival of the fittest. In order to be amongst the survivors, everyone wants to be first in the race. If we study to know ourselves and others in a better way, life will be much easier to live than we are living now.

Real life examples: Elizabeth has been accepted to four different universities and is having problems choosing which one she prefers. The decision is made even more difficult because Elizabeth is just 15 years old. Michaeltook his SAT test last Saturday. He scored 1560 out of 1600 including a perfect 800 in math.

He’s looking forward to finishing his schooling as he will be attending Harvard in the fall. George has been invited to his local college to compete for five scholarships they are awarding amounting to full tuition for four years – about 0,000 each. The scholarships are awarded based on academic ability and the competition is stiff every year. He’s expected to finish first and have his schooling paid for.

What do all of these children have in common? All have been homeschooled.

However, for many families, homeschooling just isn’t a possibility.

With more and more parents working to support the family along with single-parent households who don’t have the luxury of staying home to school their kids, even if you do feel home schooling is best for your child, it’s just out of the realm of reality. Should you find yourself in the position to be able to make the choice, there are many things you need to know about before deciding to accept responsibility for your child’s education.

First and foremost, you need to know that home schooling tends to take up a lot of time in your day. It is more than just sitting down with books for a couple of hours. There are experiments and projects to be done, lessons to prepare, papers to grade, field trips, park days, music lessons, and the list goes on. It can be much like a full-time job, but this is your child’s education, so making that kind of commitment needs to be fully understood in order for them to actually benefit. Having a set schedule helps manage the time you do have, and we’ll cover possible schedules for you to consider in a later chapter.

Homeschooling does require a certain amount of personal sacrifice for the parent. The home school parent has little personal time or time alone. If care is not taken to set aside time for yourself, it is easy to never have time alone. Parent and child are together nearly all the time. That can be extremely stressful, so make sure you’ll be able to schedule time for yourself. There is a bit of financial strain on the family unit as well.

This should give you a better idea of whether or not your mind and heart are in the right place. Consider some of the following when making your list:

Advantages:

Parents know their child better than any other teacher could. Because of this, parents can custom-tailor the learning experience. Your children’s interests, abilities and learning styles can be accommodated.

Home schooling gives a family more time– to be together, to strengthen relationships, and to share values and ideas. Many families find that learning at home takes less time than learning at school. There are some school activities that take away learning time from children. When you regain that time by schooling at home, this allows your child to learn more and pursue personal interests.

Plus, they can move at a quicker pace than in the traditional classroom. Simple but life enriching activities such as reading can be reclaimed and put to educational use. Many children who are publicly schooled sometimes find the noisy, crowded environment in a classroom stressful. Recurring stomachaches, headaches, and anxiety may all improve in a happy, peaceful home environment.

Beyond the traditional subjects taught in school, children can obtain life skills, such as managing money, cooking, and carpentry, by participating in real activities required at home. Contrary to what many opponents feel, homeschooled children can become better socialized than their peers. They are not confined to the same-age-only relationships of the school setting, so they have more experience in getting along with people of all ages.

Finally, and the bottom line for many prospective home schoolers is that home offers a degree of safety that no school system can provide. Drugs, alcohol, violence, peer pressure are all absent in the home setting as opposed to the school setting.

Disadvantages:

The awesome responsibility for education rests squarely where most home schoolers believe it should: on the family’s shoulders. Many people may be unwilling or unable to assume the responsibility, and would prefer that it be left to others.

The increased “togetherness” is a bitter pill to swallow for some. Fortunately, many find that home schooling is a positive, relationship-healing process. Over time, both the children and parents change, relax, and come to enjoy being together in a way that is not possible for those families who are able to only spend leftover snippets of time together.

Home schooling takes more effort than sending children to school. In addition to basic subjects, energy is required to stay informed about and engaged in activities and opportunities, legislation, and home schooling methods and ideas.

Your home will look very different when you home school. Some people find this to be much more difficult than they expect – especially when they are used to “a place for everything and everything in its place” mentality.

You could be subject to some intense criticism from family, friends, and society in general. Be prepared for this and arm yourself with information. Remember why you want to home school and remain committed to your decision.

So, you’ve decided to go ahead and dive into homeschooling. There’s a lot to take care of now and many people wonder just where should they start?

Kids are curious. They speak their mind. They want an explanation for everything. Kids always ask why. As such, their curiosity must be satisfied. If you are a parent and you notice that your kid has displayed a keen interest on medicine, buy him toys about the different systems and organs of the body. If your nephew, for instance, is a bit curious about astronomy, buy him a solar system toy. This is a cheap yet great way of getting him/her started in following the footsteps of Nicolaus Copernicus.

If you noticed that your kid has shown interest on the micro-world – perhaps you observed that he constantly plays with his magnifying lenses – then get him one of those educational microscopes. Don’t go for toys – get a real microscope, but at a lesser price.

There are many educational microscopes out in the market. They are especially designed for children – to satisfy their curiosity about the things that they cannot see using their naked eyes.

By telling them that they can see what a drop of blood really looks like through these educational microscopes, perhaps, they would never be frightened anymore the next time that they go to the lab and have a blood extraction. Do tell them however, that educational microscopes cannot let them see ghosts. In this context, ghosts do not fall under the category: “invisible to the naked eye.”

But with the many versions and types of educational microscopes out there, how do you know which one to choose? How do you know which one to buy? Do you even know what an educational microscope looks like?

Well, you don’t need to have a Masters Degree or a PHD to know what an educational microscope looks like. You simply have to ask the right questions. Surely, stores that specialize on microscopes know the difference between veterinary microscopes and educational microscopes.

The store attendants may present to you different models, such as The Travel Lab, the MicroQuest, The Explorer II and The Observer III. That’s a lot to choose from. But the secret to getting the educational microscope perfect for your kid’s needs is in matching his/her preference and your budget.

If your kid is aged 10-12, for instance, he may find The Observer II appealing because he can make a lot of adjustments with that model. But if he is younger than 10 year old, and is just starting to exhibit his interest in Science, then you can get the Travel Lab or the MicroQuest for a start. These are the best in starter scopes and they even come with microscopy accessories such as specimen containers and blank slides. Plus, this type of educational microscope would not cost you much.

As a parent (or a guardian, an aunt, an uncle a godfather or practically anyone dealing with kids), you need to support your child’s education. Not all kids are natural observers and natural inquisitors. Thus, if your kid happens to be one, nurture such instinct. Get him one of those educational microscopes right away. At 10 years old, he may not know yet what a fluorescent filters cube is. But with your guidance and support, it won’t be for long before he can explain to you what that term truly means.
